Hello
Hello, I'm Lise. I am a painter and visual artist living in Jonesboro, AR.
My work is typically very colorful. It moves between landscapes and abstract pieces, depending on whatever sparks joy.
I hope it brings you a moment of light and positive energy, and maybe a moment to think about what matters most.
My Story
I am both an artist and an educator. I’ve spent four decades in the field of education and currently serve as faculty at a medical school, where I focus on teaching, curriculum development, and supporting academic growth.
I began painting as a creative release, and over time it reshaped how I see the world. Working in acrylic, watercolor, oil, photography, and digital media, I realized that what draws me back to the canvas is the way the visible world reflects something inner—pattern, rhythm, and spirit.
My artistic language has been shaped by a lifetime of movement: growing up in California, spending formative years in Arizona, settling in Arkansas, and traveling through Europe, India, and China. These places gave me a deep love of rural communities, simple living, and the quiet beauty that often goes unnoticed. Architecture, Asian art, and the expressive traditions of Chagall and Bonnard have also influenced my sense of color and composition. Through them, I discovered that luminous color and layered glazes let me hold clarity and mystery at the same time.
I continue to grow through ongoing training and community. I’ve taken many art classes over the years and am the co-founder of the Delta Create Art Alliance as well as a member of the Northeast Arkansas Visual Arts League (NEAVAL). One of my long-term goals is to help build an art hub or creative space that nurtures connection, learning, and shared inspiration across the region.

Where a painting begins
“Color is all. When color is right, form is right. Color is everything, color is vibration like music; everything is vibration.”
— Marc Chagall
For me, painting is a way to quiet the noise and return to something more intuitive. The world feels very alive to me—full of unexpected color, small signs, and moments that seem to lean toward meaning. When I paint, I try to hold onto those fleeting impressions before they disappear.
Often it begins with a scene: a shift of light, a horizon line, a sky gathering itself, the poignancy of a moment. Sometimes there are echoes—a song, a memory, a scrap of a dream, or the shape of an animal rising from the edge of awareness. These little signals feel like invitations.
When I paint, I focus deeply. The work becomes soothing, and the painting begins to reveal something I hadn’t fully seen: a returning symbol, an archetype, an emotion that needed a home. These small discoveries open doors, and each piece becomes part of an ongoing conversation between what is visible and what stirs beneath it.
I’ve come to feel that painting connects me to something larger—a long human lineage of artists and seekers who have tried to make sense of life through color and image. Imagination moves like a river through time, carrying fragments of story, memory, and wonder. I follow what feels alive in the moment.
I hope my paintings carry some of that: light, stillness, curiosity, and the quiet sense that beneath any moment, there is something worth remembering.
